Vienna - Graz - Klagenfurt - Villach - Salzburg (from December 2025)

The opening of the Koralmbahn between Graz and Klagenfurt in December 2025 will mark the first time in decades that a completely new railway line in Austria has been put into operation. As part of the new Southern Line, the Koralmbahn opens up attractive travel options to and from Carinthia, to Styria and far beyond. 

There will also be numerous improvements to the train connections between Graz and Salzburg, which will run via the Koralmbahn railway for the first time. Passengers and commuters will benefit from shorter journey times, new direct connections, modern trains and a significantly expanded range of long-distance services.

Salzburg - Villach - Klagenfurt - Graz - Vienna (from December 2025)

With the completion of the Koralmbahn, from December 2025 there will be a significantly improved rail offering for journeys from Salzburg to Vienna via Carinthia and Styria.
As the centerpiece of the new Southern Line, the link between Klagenfurt and Graz significantly reduces journey times and provides an attractive network of direct connections. Whether for commuters or long-distance travelers, the new connection brings more comfort, modern trains, shorter journey times and a significantly expanded range of long-distance services.

Western Line

Important train connections and tips for your journey.

Vienna - Linz - Salzburg - Innsbruck - Bregenz

With ÖBB trains, passengers can travel from Vienna to Salzburg in comfort on the Western Line twice per hour. The fast RJX services run hourly from Vienna via St. Pölten, Linz, Salzburg, Wörgl and Innsbruck to Feldkirch, with every other service continuing to Bregenz. This means the entire west of the country can be reached quickly and easily from the capital.

There is moreover an Intercity hourly service between Vienna and Salzburg, with stops at major interchange stations, where there are numerous connections to popular holiday regions such as the Salzkammergut (via Attnang-Puchheim). The ÖBB Nightjet, which connects Vienna with western Austria, offers a convenient way to travel during the night.

Bregenz - Innsbruck - Salzburg - Linz - Vienna

Passengers can travel quickly and easily on the Western Line twice per hour from Salzburg to Vienna with ÖBB trains. Direct RJX services depart from Bregenz every two hours. In addition, hourly trains run from Feldkirch via Innsbruck, Wörgl, Salzburg, Linz and St. Pölten to Vienna. This way, ÖBB gets you from across the west straight to the capital as quickly as possible.

For journeys to more distant destinations, twice hourly ÖBB Railjets and Intercity services run via Vienna Central Station to Vienna International Airport. This enables ÖBB to connect five state capitals directly to Vienna International Airport: Bregenz, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Linz and St. Pölten. And at night, the ÖBB Nightjet transports you in comfort from western Austria to Vienna.
