SimplyGo! makes it even easier to travel by public transport across Austria. Instead of buying a ticket in advance, the ÖBB App detects the distance travelled via GPS and, the next day, automatically calculates the appropriate fare*. Perfect for anyone who likes to travel flexibly and spontaneously by train, bus, underground and tram.

How SimplyGo! works

Instead of selecting the right ticket before your journey, SimplyGo! takes care of this task. When you start your journey, you check in with the ÖBB App, and at your destination you check out again. So fast, so easy, and always the right ticket at the right price. Crunching the numbers and thinking about which ticket is worth it is a thing of the past. The next day, the system analyses the routes you travelled and automatically charges the cheapest available fare*. If you make multiple journeys in one day, for example, a day ticket is charged instead of individual tickets. Payment is processed via the stored credit or debit card, and you will receive an email with an overview of all journeys.

Tip

Anyone who has stored a KlimaTicket Ö in their ÖBB account pays nothing with SimplyGo!, as the route is already covered. Nevertheless, you collect Vorzugspunkte for every recorded journey. These are calculated based on the regular 2nd-class ticket price.

These transport options and tickets are valid with SimplyGo!

SimplyGo! is valid for journeys within Austria, including international corridor routes. After a successful check-in, you can use:

ÖBB regional and long-distance trains (excluding night trains)
ÖBB buses within Austria
Selected regional trains such as Graz-Köflacher Bahn, Zillertalbahn or Salzburger Lokalbahn
All regional bus and city transport operators that accept tickets from the transport networks, such as Wiener Linien, Graz Linien and Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe

ÖBB standard 2nd-class tickets, as well as Verbund single-journey tickets and Verbund day tickets are all available. Sparschiene tickets, tickets for night trains and standard 1st-class tickets are currently unavailable. Activate SimplyGo!

Before your first journey, SimplyGo! must be activated once in your ÖBB account:

Install the ÖBB App and log in using your ÖBB account.
In the app, tap SimplyGo! at the bottom, tap Activate and accept the Terms and Conditions.
Add a credit or debit card as a payment method. For verification, a test authorisation of € 0.10 is carried out and then released again.

Activation is free of charge and can be revoked at any time. A smartphone that allows the app continuous access to your location is an essential requirement. Only then can SimplyGo! correctly detect the routes you have travelled.

How a journey with SimplyGo! works

A journey with SimplyGo! takes just a few steps:

Check in: Before boarding, open SimplyGo! in the app, check that the preselected station is correct and swipe right. The status ‘Tracking in progress’ indicates a successful check-in.
Travel: Transfers are possible as long as the journey remains within Austria and within the validity area of SimplyGo!.
Check out: After alighting the mode of transport and leaving the platform or ticket zone, swipe left.

You can see the provisional price for the journey in the app immediately afterwards, in the SimplyGo! settings under ‘Past journeys’. The final cost will be determined the following day on the basis of the optimised calculation.

A special rule applies in Vienna: here, you must check in before entering the ticket zone or passing through the underground ticket gates, and you only check out after you have left these areas again. This ensures that you always have a valid ticket in the event of a ticket inspection.

Frequently asked questions about SimplyGo! (FAQs)

What happens during a ticket inspection?

During an inspection, the SimplyGo! ticket is shown in the ÖBB App by tapping ‘View ticket’. Please be aware that the ticket can only be displayed during an ongoing journey, i.e. between check-in and check-out.
How much does SimplyGo! cost?

Activating SimplyGo! is a one-off step and is free of charge. You only pay for the routes you actually travel, calculated according to the applicable, available fare and automatically billed the next day (around 4.00 am).
How is the price calculated?

The price depends on the distance travelled and the applicable fares. The next day, the system optimises the billing: if you make several journeys within the same area, for example, a day ticket is charged instead of multiple single tickets if that is cheaper.
Will my discounts be taken into account?

Yes, SimplyGo! automatically takes into account all discounts and cards stored in your ÖBB account. These include, among other things, discounts such as the Austrian Disability Pass, customer cards such as the ÖBB Vorteilscard Classic, network passes such as the KlimaTicket Ö, and urban transport tickets such as the City of Salzburg’s Ticket Stadtverkehr. However, these cards must still be shown during a ticket inspection.
What requirements are there for using SimplyGo?

To use SimplyGo!, you need the ÖBB App, an ÖBB account, a credit/debit card and a smartphone that allows the app continuous access to your location. Only then can the routes you have travelled be detected correctly. Use of the feature may be limited on some older devices.
