S-Bahn Salzburg

Forget about traffic jams and take the S-Bahn to reach your destination comfortably and on time

Forget about traffic jams and take the S-Bahn to reach your destination comfortably and relaxed. The S-Bahn project, which was initiated by ÖBB in collaboration with the state and the City of Salzburg, stands for fast and environmentally friendly rail transport at regular intervals throughout the central region of Salzburg, offering optimal connections to both urban and regional bus lines.

Bringing motorists to the train

In Salzburg there are plenty of opportunities to swap your car for a train. P&R parking lots are located, for example, at the S2 stops Hallwang-Elixhausen, Seekirchen Stadt, Seekirchen am Wallersee, Neumarkt am Wallersee und Straßwalchen. Along the S3 many parking lots are available in Elsbethen, Hallein and Golling-Abtenau.

ÖBB operates 2 S-Bahn lines in Salzburg

  • Line S3
Bad Reichenhall - Freilassing - Schwarzach St. Veit - Saalfelden
The S3 now runs daily (including Sundays and public holidays) every half hour between Freilassing and Golling-Abtenau.
On weekdays trains run with two units to provide more space for passengers.
In addition to this, the Salzburger Lokalbahnen (SLB) as well as the Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) operate the lines S1, S4, S11 and LEX11.
Free bicycle carriage

On ÖBB local trains (S-Bahn, regional train, regional express) in the state of Salzburg bicycle carriage is free of charge for holders of KlimaTicket Ö or KlimaTicket Salzburg (all types), if enough free spaces are available.

On ÖBB S-Bahn trains between Salzburg Central Station and Freilassing as well as on trains operated by Bayerische Regiobahn (S4) on the route Freilassing to Berchtesgaden the transport of bicycles is free in general.
