New 2027 timetable

More direct connections, modern trains and an extensive range of services in Austria and beyond

The new timetable will come into effect across Europe on 13 December 2026. Following the major service expansions introduced last year, ÖBB is maintaining the high level of services while implementing targeted improvements. Rail passengers will benefit from additional direct connections within Austria, new services to Germany, Italy, Serbia and Slovakia, and more modern trains. Here is an overview of the most important changes.

More connections within Austria

Long-distance services

  • Additional Interregio services between Graz and Villach via the Koralmbahn will enhance early-morning and late-evening travel options.
  • Interregio trains between Graz and Maribor will also stop at Graz Airport in future.
  • From July 2027, three additional IC trains per day and direction will operate between Graz and Linz. Together with the existing Interregio services, this will provide eleven direct trains per day in each direction.
  • On weekdays, a new early-morning service will depart Graz at 04:48 for Klagenfurt, arriving at 05:47, with onward connections to Villach and Salzburg.

Local and regional services

  • Vienna Airport will have improved connections within eastern Austria, while faster services will operate between Wolfsthal and Vienna.
  • Additional trains will run between Vienna and Wiener Neustadt, between Eisenstadt and Wulkaprodersdorf, and between Vienna Westbahnhof and Eichgraben/Altlengbach.
  • In Vorarlberg, passengers will benefit from new direct cross-border connections to Switzerland and Germany.

New international connections

Germany

Following the completion of the comprehensive modernisation of the line between Passau and Nuremberg, ICE trains will once again operate to Nuremberg, Frankfurt, Dortmund and Berlin. An additional pair of ICE services between Vienna and Dortmund will expand the offering at the start and end of the day. From the timetable change, there will therefore be ten ICE connections from Vienna to Nuremberg. A new overnight long-distance Night ICE service will also operate between Vienna and Stuttgart.

Italy

From summer 2027, rail services to Italy will be expanded: in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn and Trenitalia, Frecciarossa high-speed trains will run from Munich via Innsbruck to Milan and Rome.

Serbia

For the first time since 2019, a direct connection to Belgrade is planned for 2027, with two trains per day in each direction and a journey time of around 6 hours 30 minutes. The exact launch date remains subject to the necessary authorisation for the route in Hungary.

Slovakia and Switzerland

Two new direct EuroCity services from Vienna via Bratislava and Žilina to Košice will be added to the timetable. From summer 2027, RJX 765 from Bregenz via Vienna will also be extended to Bratislava, while RJX 168 from Bratislava via Vienna will be extended to Zurich.

Ticket sales start right now

Ticket sales and timetable information

Ticket sales for the 2027 timetable will start on 14 October 2026. Connections are already available in SCOTTY. Tickets are available via the ÖBB App, at shop.oebbtickets.at, from ÖBB ticket counters and ticket machines, and from all sales partners.

More flexible Business Class pricing

From the timetable change, Business Class pricing will become more flexible. In future, the surcharge will depend on demand and occupancy levels on the respective service. Passengers who book early or travel on less busy services may benefit from lower prices.

New and modern trains for local, regional and long-distance services

57 new trains in 2027

ÖBB will continue to modernise and expand its fleet in 2027. A further 27 Cityjet double-decker trains will enter service on local and regional routes.

Six new Coradia Stream trains are planned for cross-border local and regional services between Tyrol and South Tyrol, eliminating the need to change trains at Brenner.

For long-distance services, ten new-generation Railjets and 14 new Railjet double-decker trains will be added to the fleet.

In total, ÖBB is investing around €6.1 billion in 330 new and modern trains by 2030. Following around 80 additional vehicles in 2026, a further 57 will be added in 2027.

Services maintained despite extensive construction work

The 2027 timetable year will be marked by extensive construction work. From 8 February to 9 July 2027, work on the German rail network will require the closure of the Deutsches Eck section between Freilassing and Rosenheim. At the same time, the Tauern line between Schwarzach-St. Veit and Mallnitz-Obervellach will be fully closed for the second phase of the extensive tunnel and line refurbishment. ÖBB and Deutsche Bahn have jointly developed replacement and diversion concepts. Depending on their destination, passengers travelling on the Western line towards Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Zurich will have access either to through train services with longer journey times or to connections involving rail replacement bus services. Connections to and from Germany via Passau will resume normal operation from 13 December 2026. RJX trains from Vienna to Munich and vice versa will be diverted via Passau.

All information on timetable changes and replacement services is available in the ÖBB timetable information service SCOTTY. The ÖBB Customer Service team is also available to answer questions on 05-1717.

Please note that the planning for local, regional and long-distance passenger rail services for the 2027 timetable year (as of 13th December 2026) has not yet been completed and the timetable data is not yet complete.

It is therefore possible that local, regional and long-distance connections will be changed or cancelled at the time of the timetable change, that additional services may be added to the timetable or that the departure or arrival times may still change.

We thus ask you to review the current timetable of your connection in due time before starting your journey.
