Upper Austria

Experience the real deal.

A summer holiday in Upper Austria is a bit like a journey to find yourself. Between mountains and lakes, and surrounded by adventure hotspots and recreation areas, there’s always something to discover. And it’s always the real thing. Art, culture, cuisine – nothing here is set up or staged, but enjoyable experiences can be found everywhere. 2024 will bring with it such cultural highlights as “Bad Ischl - Salzkammergut Capital of Culture” and “200 Years of Anton Bruckner”.

The thing that makes Upper Austria so special is its varied landscape. Hardly any other region offers so many different natural environments in such a compact space: from the mountains and lakes in the Salzkammergut to the fertile foothills of the Alps, the Danube wetlands and the wilderness of the Kalkalpen National Park to the granite hills of the Mühlviertel in the north. The invigorating, lively city of Linz and urban gems such as Steyr, Schärding, Wels and Bad Ischl surprise time and time again. Upper Austria fulfils the desire to experience nature up close, whether it be through activities or relaxation.

Austria’s art and cultural scene is just as varied as the country’s landscape. As the “UNESCO City of Media Arts”, the provincial capital Linz is showing itself to be creative and future-oriented. Festivals such as "Klassik am Dom" in Linz, the "Woodstock Festival of Brass Music" in the Innviertel (the largest brass music festival in the world), the music festival in Steyr or the Donaufestwochen in Grein enrich the cultural calendar of Upper Austria. “Summer retreat reloaded” is the motto of the Salzkammergut, the former summer retreat of famous artists such as Gustav Klimt and Gustav Mahler, which will be in the spotlight as the European Capital of Culture in 2024.
