Far beyond the borders of Austria, the Schmittenhöhe is known as its most beautiful panoramic mountain with an unique view from the summit looking out over more than 30 mountain peaks above three thousand metres. At 2,000 m, the summit can be reached comfortably by Porsche designed cable car gondola. Once at the top, there is a large selection of hiking trails to start off on, for all levels of ability and endurance. In summer, it is worth taking part in a guided herb hike or attending a yoga workshop. In winter, there is a winter hiking trail that takes you via some cosy mountain huts with sunny panoramic terraces and tasty regional dishes. Also not to be missed in summer or winter are the “Art on the Mountain” sculptures. At the mountain station of the Schmittenhöhebahn, there is an all-year-round interactive exhibition that recounts almost a century of history of this first cable car in the Salzburg region.
The highlights of the Schmitten:
“Art on the Mountain” open air art display
Free guided hiking tours in summer
Guided snowshoe and winter hikes in winter
Adventure hiking trails such as the Höhenpromenade (Promenade of the heights), Kräuterwanderweg (Wild herb trail), Sisi-Rundweg (Sisi round trail) and the winter hiking trail at 2,000m
