Vorteilscard birthday promotion

• What is the Vorteilscard birthday promotion?

  Your Vorteilscard entitles you to free travel in standard (2nd) class on your birthday in conjunction with a photo ID with proof of age. The cost of changing from second to first class is the difference between the two classes for the journey of your choice. You can collect your ticket from our ticket desks or from the train attendants on our long-distance trains (Railjet, Intercity, Eurocity, ICE, trains), subject to availability.

  The promotion is valid until cancelled.

• I have an ÖBB Vorteilscard and would like to travel abroad on my birthday. How much does it cost and where can I get my ticket?

  Your Vorteilscard entitles you to free travel in second class on all ÖBB trains in Austria on your birthday in conjunction with a photo ID with proof of age. You will need to purchase a ticket for the foreign leg of your journey.

  You can purchase this at our ticket desks or from the train attendant on our long-distance trains (Railjet, Intercity, Eurocity, ICE, D-trains).

• What does the entitlement to travel free of charge in second class on my Vorteilscard mean? Which trains can I use on my birthday?

  On your birthday, you can use your valid Vorteilscard in combination with a photo ID with proof of age to travel second class on all ÖBB trains in Austria, second class on IC buses within Austria and on the trains of many Austrian private railway companies.

  The single-day validity as a free ticket in second class means that your ÖBB Vorteilscard will be accepted as a ticket for second class travel on the above-mentioned trains on your birthday. Other services such as free seat reservations and discounts with partner companies (e.g. ÖBB Rail&Drive) are excluded from the promotion. If your birthday is on 29 February, your Vorteilscard is valid as a free second class ticket on all ÖBB trains in Austria outside of leap years on 28 February in combination with a photo ID with proof of age.

• Which private railways are included?

  Your ÖBB Vorteilscard is valid as a ticket on the trains of the following private railway companies on your birthday in conjunction with a photo ID with proof of age:

  • Styrian Provincial Railway (Steiermärkischer Landesbahn)
  • Salzburg local services (Salzburger Lokalbahn)
  • Pinzgau local services (Pinzgauer Lokalbahn)
  • Mariazell Railway (Mariazellerbahn)
  • Waidhofen City Railway (Citybahn Waidhofen)
  • Stern&Hafferl Railway
  • Graz-Köflach Railway (Graz-Köflacher-Bahn)
  • Montafon Railway (Montafonerbahn)
  • Vienna local services
  • Zillertal Railway (Zillertalbahn)
  • Stubai Valley Railway (Stubaitalbahn)
  • Raab-Oedenburg-Ebenfurt Railway (Austrian sections)

  Please note: Vorteilscard Family holders can only take advantage of this offer on ÖBB trains, the Mariazell Railway, the Waidhofen City Railway and the Raab-Ödenburg Railway.

• I have a Vorteilscard Family. This is only valid as a discount card when travelling with children. Does the birthday promotion also apply to me?

  The birthday promotion also applies to customers with a valid Vorteilscard Family. As the Vorteilscard Family is only valid when travelling with children, at least one child (maximum four children) under the age of 15 must be travelling with you on your birthday.

• I am travelling with an Austrian Disability Pass, does the promotion apply to me?

  Yes, if you have the following entries in your Austrian Disability Pass or Disabled Ex-Service Personnel Pass:

  • Degree of disability of at least 70% or
  • Additional entry "Can claim reduced fares as per the Federal Disability Act".

  You must present a valid photo ID with proof of age in order to take advantage of this promotion.

• I have already bought a ticket to travel on my birthday, can I have it refunded in light of the Vorteilscard birthday promotion?

  The Vorteilscard birthday promotion is a voluntary promotion; there is no entitlement to a fare refund. We provide information about the promotion on oebb.at, in the invitation to renew the contract and on the letter accompanying the ÖBB Vorteilscard.

• My birthday is on 29 February, but this year is not a leap year. When can I use the birthday promotion?

  People whose birthday is on 29 February can use it on 28 February in years that are not leap years.
