The LENTOS is one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Austria.
The LENTOS is one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Austria. With its unusual architecture and the luminous façade, it has now become a landmark for Linz.
The museum collection has now been set in a new light. In redesigning the displays, the museum director, Hemma Schmutz, and her team have been guided by the fundamental concept of creating a chronological sequence, which allows the observer to get to know the key artistic movements and styles in art history, from the 19th century to the present, from the original pieces. In addition, emphasis has been given to artists who have a special relationship with Linz and the LENTOS, such as VALIE EXPORT and Herbert Bayer.
The special exhibitions supplement this presentation of the collection and are mainly dedicated to contemporary art and artists. In 2019, this includes Maria Lassnig and Arnulf Rainer in the spring, Otto Zitko in the summer and, in the autumn, there is an exhibition of the art dealer Wolfgang Gurlitt that returns to the origins of the LENTOS collection.
