ÖBB Railjet

The ÖBB Railjet connects Austria and Europe.

With a maximum speed of up to 230 km/h, the Railjet (RJ) takes you through all of Austria to Germany, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia or Switzerland. The brand new generation of Railjets will be put into use from April 2024 on the Brenner line between Munich - Innsbruck - Bozen and Veron, and will offer our passengers even more comfort.

Upgrade programme & new trains

From 2024, all existing Railjets will gradually undergo an upgrade program in terms of interior design and technology: In the modernised trains, you can enjoy comfortable seats, a modern design in the cabin, additional buggy storage spaces and baggage rack space, as well as an improved passenger information system. The facilities for taking bicycles on board is also being optimised. 

Additionally, 14 new double decker Railjets have been ordered, which are to be introduced on the western line from 2026.

Free WIFI & the Railnet onboard Entertainment Portal, an 
On-board restaurant as well as quiet and family zones see to a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere on board.  

The travel time in the modern high-speed train can be used to work, drink coffee, enjoy the views or relax. There are three different comfort classes available for this: Economy Class, First Class and Business Class.
 

Connections

Western Line

There are two Railjets per hour on the Vienna-Salzburg route with stops in Tullnerfeld, Amstetten, St. Valentin, Wels, Attnang-Puchheim, Vöcklabruck and Neumarkt/Wallersee. The Railjet Xpress (RJX) offers the quickest connection between Vienna and Salzburg, that only stops in St. Pölten and Linz, and continues to Innsbruck and Feldkirch every hour. Munich or Zurich can be reached every two hours. You can also go from Salzburg, Linz, St. Pölten and Vienna directly to Budapest every 2 hours. A twinset always connects Zürich via Feldkirch, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Linz with Bratislava and Budapest.

Vienna International Airport

The Railjet connects Austria to the whole world with its direct connections to the Vienna International Airport: There are two Railjets per hour between Vienna Meidling and Vienna Central Station to the Vienna International Airport. The Railjet connects five provincial capitols, Begrenz, Innsbruck, Salzburg, Linz and St. Pölten, directly to the Vienna International Airport along the western line.

Southern Line

Every hour a Railjet brings you from Vienna to Graz. Every two hours a Railjet runs directly from Prague or the Vienna International Airport via Vienna to Graz. You can also travel from Vienna via Klagenfurt to Villach with the ÖBB Railjet. The Railjet travels twice daily via Carinthia to Venice.

Tauern line

There are 3 Railjets in each direction in transit on the Tauern line between Klagenfurt and Salzburg daily. A connection there brings you directly from Klagenfurt to Munich and back.

Brenner line

The brand new Railjets of the new generation are being introduced from spring 2024 on the Brenner line between Munich/ Innsbruck and Italy. For the time being, there are three connections between Munich and Innsbruck, two of which will continue to Italy with the new trains.
