The KunstHausWien was built in 1991 by the Austrian artist and environmental philosopher Friedensreich Hundertwasser in a former Thonet furniture factory. The museum and exhibition house is one of the most renowned cultural sites in Vienna.
The building itself is a work of art: Hundertwasser designed a unique world of experience and an extraordinary exhibition space for his work. Visitors to the Hundertwasser Museum are presented with the full spectrum of his creations - from his art and architecture to his environmental endeavours. A programme of international contemporary exhibitions focusing on the intersection of art with climate, nature, and sustainability, establishes KunstHausWien as a focal point in the international cultural scene.
In 2024, following a comprehensive modernisation, the museum will reopen its doors, operating with low emissions and providing an innovative and contemporary visitor experience. Under the theme Reface Hundertwasser, the permanent exhibition of the world’s largest collection of works by the Austrian artist will be presented in a new light.
