The Brenner railway axis is one of the most important infrastructure projects of the European Union. As project within the scope of the trans-European network (TEN), the construction of the new lower inn valley railway line has highest priority.
The business unit Lower Inn Valley is responsible for the project realisation of the Northern feeder line to the Brenner base tunnel on Austrian national territory on the basis of a management agreement between Brenner Eisenbahn GmbH and ÖBB-Infrastruktur Bau AG:
- planning and construction of the first construction stage between Kundl and Baumkirchen
- planning of the second construction stage between Kundl and the state border near Kufstein
The first construction stage has been under construction since 2003. On a length of ca. 40 kilometres, ÖBB-Infrastruktur Bau AG is constructing a modern high performance double-track railway line in ten skeleton construction sections and different specialised construction sections.
Presently, the process of determining the train path for the second construction stage is underway. The planning team is determining an optimal train path route together with representatives of the municipalities on site and neighbouring municipalities as well as stakeholders.
