Development

With the putting into force of the Federal Railway Structure Act 2003 (Bundesbahnstrukturgesetz 2003) on 1 January 2004, the Republic of Austria in its capacity as the owner provided the legal basis for changing the legal form and restructuring of the company "Österreichische Bundesbahnen" and for establishing the ÖBB Group of companies. This law provided the basis for establishing market-oriented ÖBB companies designed to hold their own on the liberalized rail market within the enlarged Europe. more
