Booking made easy and travelling stress-free

When booking your night journey on an ÖBB Nightjet, you comfort ticket always includes a reservation in your requested category. It is therefore only valid for the respective booked train, the respective date and the selected route. Ticket sales generally start 180 days prior to departure. Travelling dates in the period of the annual timetable change in mid-December may be subject to shorter booking periods.

Sparschiene

Those who wish to travel at particularly low prices should keep in mind that Sparschiene tickets are limited and the price depends on the demand.

In combination with an ÖBB Nightjet ticket, special discounted tickets for the below feeder / connecting trains to and from the ÖBB Nightjet are available:

Depending on the length of the connecting route, the following discounts may be granted:

  • from 0-125 km 35% discount
  • from 126-350 km 40% discount
  • from 351-600 km 45% discount
  • more than 601 km 55% discount

The discount is granted on the currently valid full price of a Deutsche Bahn Flex ticket.

These tickets are available: online at nightjet.com and oebb.at, via the ÖBB app, at any ÖBB ticket counter, at the ÖBB travel agency at the station and via ÖBB sales partners. When booking your ticket online, please enter your entire travel route in order to easily and directly receive the discounted tickets for your connecting route.

** The connection ticket is only available for trips immediately prior to or after trips with an ÖBB Nightjet (night train) on Deutsche Bahn trains and in combination with a comfort ticket. It can be booked up to 180 day prior to the departure date. A discount of 50% is granted to children below the age of 15. No further discounts. Valid for first and second class. The ÖBB Personenverkehr AG's terms and conditions included in the handbook for travelling with the ÖBB Nightjet (night train) in Germany apply.

Children

Children up to 5 years of age travel for free when sharing a seat with an adult. In case they need their own bed, they can travel with the reduced Children’s Ticket.
For children from 6 to 14* years of age, reduced tickets on the ÖBB Nightjet are available.

*When sold by SBB in Switzerland, this age limit is extended to 15 years of age

Family compartment

1 or 2 adults with 1 to 4 children up to the age of 14 can travel in the privacy of their own couchette coach in the couchette coach. The flat rate applies to all passengers in the compartment per trip and includes breakfast. The passengers do not need to be related.

Customer cards

Passengers travelling from/within/through Austria or Germany receive a discount when showing their ÖBB Vorteilscard or ÖBB Businesscard.
If you possess an Österreichcard, you can travel within Austria for free in your seat. A place on the day coach, couchette or sleeper coach can be booked at every ticket counter or through the ÖBB Customer Service at 0043 5-1717.
With your SBB half-price subscription "Halbtax-Abo" (SwissPass) you receive a discount for trips from or to Switzerland.
With your Trenitalia Carta Verde or Carta Argento, you receive a discount for trips from or to Italy.
The DB Bahncard 25,50 and Railplus do not entitle passengers to discounts for comfort tickets (IRT) on ÖBB Nightjet trains.
For travelling within Germany with your DB BahnCard 100 you need a valid reservation for an ÖBB Nightjet train.

Groups

Groups of 6 persons or more (from 15 years of age) receive a discount on the standard price for seats. These tickets are available at the ticket counter or through the ÖBB Customer Service at 0043 5 1717.

School classes

Tickets on ÖBB Nightjet trains for groups of 15 students or more start at 29 EUR per person under the age of 19 and per direction.
This “Schoolgroup Ticket” can only be booked for certain periods and at every counter.

Interrail and Eurail

Holders of Interrail or Eurail tickets require a seat reservation in their desired category to travel on ÖBB Nightjet trains. These “Pass” tickets are available at the ticket counter or through the ÖBB Customer Service at 0043 5 1717. All seats can be booked with 2nd class.

Buying tickets at Deutsche Bahn in Germany

In addition to comfort tickets (global price) you can buy "DB Flexpreis" or "DB Sparpreis" tickets at Deutsche Bahn. Those DB tickets are valid in all ÖBB Nightjet trains in Germany and between Germany and Austria, Italy and Switzerland in combination with a reservation for a certain travel category. Your DB BahnCard 25 or 50 entitles you to a price reduction for "DB Flexpreis" or "DB Sparpreis" tickets.

Dogs

Dogs may only be taken along on an ÖBB Nightjet if you book an entire compartment. The dog’s ticket is an additional 29 EUR and can only be purchased on the train. Assistance dogs travel free of charge and do not need a muzzle. Trips within Austria are subject to ÖBB’s terms and conditions.

Dogs are not allowed in sleeping and couchette cars of Nightjet partners MAV, PKP and ČD.

Bicycles

Bicycles can currently only be taken on Nightjets travelling between Germany and Austria or Switzerland. Bicycles require separate tickets and reservations.

Cars and motorcycles on the train

On certain routes, ÖBB Nightjets will also take along your vehicle.

Changing categories on the train

In case you would like to change your travel category once the train has departed (e.g. from a seat to a bunk on the couchette coach), please contact our train team. Provided there are places available, you can change your category against paying a surcharge and travel in even more comfort.

Cancellation policy

The following policy applies to nightjet tickets issued by ÖBB:
Up to 15 days prior to the 1st day of validity, tickets are reimbursed free of charge.

After that and to the 1st day of validity, tickets can be reimbursed against a fee of 50% of the ticket price or minimum of 15 euros.

From the 1st day of validity onwards, tickets cannot be reimbursed or exchanged.
Sparschiene tickets are not exchanged or reimbursed.

Please take your place on the train no later than 15 min. after departure. After that, you forfeit your right to the place and the train team can give it to someone else.
